Garden Myths – Sometimes the old ways aren’t the best ways

Don’t water plants on sunny days? Three horticultural myths exposed

Crocks in pots. They may stop soil falling out, and make the pot heavier, which makes it harder to steal, but they don’t ‘improve drainage’

Watering on sunny days,  watering your soil well, in theory its still better to water late or early (and more pleasant too) but a good soaking is better than little and often.

Sand improves drainage. If you’ve ever handled wet sand, well its pretty obvious. Adding a good amount of humus (fibre) to your soil aids drainage far better.
