COMMUNITY GARDENS AND ORCHARDS

Since 2022, Transition Telford has been promoting and featuring the community gardens and orchards we have in Telford. These spaces are little oases of green, open to you all, growing food, providing eco-systems for birds and insects, off setting carbon and offering opportunities for exercise. Are you involved in one? Please, we would love to know about it! Send your pictures in to be featured. Are you a school garden? We’d love to share your work.

We’re delighted that Janine Potter of Shropshire Good Food Partnership has been appointed as Grow Local co-ordinator for Telford, and hopes to map community gardens and orchards here in Telford in 2023.

We hold monthly gardening volunteer days to work on the garden in Leegomery , and involve the community. Click on our main page for times & dates. Scroll on down for more info on all our garden related work.

We have also been filmed at one of our key projects, Leegomery Community Garden, as part of Shropshire Wildlife Trusts Nextdoor Nature Project

We’re involved with the projects below.

Above we see Darren at Donnington Community Orchard, a hidden gem, with a fascinating history! Watch this space for more events at that locale. Volunteers would be welcome!

And above we see the work of Short Wood Primary, whom we helped with seeds in 2021! Thanks for the pictures Year 5. In 2021 we helped 5 schools with seeds from our annual seedswap.

The Permaculture garden at the Green Wood Centre is one of the community gardens Transition Telford help with, and the other is the Leegomery Community Garden, at the Leegomery Community Centre. Visitors and volunteers are welcome. We will be starting a regular Drop in work Day there, on every 2nd Tuesday of the month, and we now have a Facebook Group for Leegomery Community Garden to provide information on updates, and how to volunteer. Please get in touch!
