Rethreads Craft Group Meetings – making use of and valuing recycled, scrap or unused fabrics and other textiles; learning and sharing new skills and raising awareness of the high cost to the environment of the manufacture and use of textiles. Bring along your current project if you have one. If you haven’t one we have ideas and resources to start one – and sometimes group projects too.
Part of Get Creative at The Wakes, Theatre Square, Oakengates, Telford TF2 6EP. on the second Saturday of the month.
Drop in between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm – you don’t have to stay the whole time.
Our next Rethreads Craft Group is on Saturday 11th May 2019.
This meeting has been hijacked by the Dangerous Pockets project – inspired by the poem Dangerous Coats by Sharon Owens which speaks to the laws prohibiting women from having pockets in their coats where they could hide seditious propaganda about women’s suffrage.
There only 2 rules for the pockets. They should be made from recycled materials and they need a tabs, grommets, or casing in which the cord is passed so the pockets can be displayed like bunting.
There are contributions coming in from all over the world. Some speak to women’s rights, some to women’s issues (for example pockets made from half bras as a nod to women who’ve had mastectomies. Some are memories of mothers and grans made from old aprons.
